How and Where Trauma Can Develop

Trauma counselling helps you process difficult past experiences and reduce their ongoing impact on your emotional and physical well-being. Trauma can result from many types of events, including:

  • Physical or emotional abuse
  • Car accidents or injuries
  • Witnessing violence
  • Sudden loss or grief
  • Childhood abuse

Even if the event happened years ago, trauma can still affect how you think, feel, and react in the present. Therapy gives you the tools to better understand these patterns and gradually shift them. The goal is not to erase the past but to help you move forward with less fear, more clarity, and a stronger sense of self.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM Trauma Counselling?

We offer specialized therapy treatments and trauma counselling for those who have experienced physical or emotional trauma. Together, we will help manage and treat any behaviors that are causing you stress.

During our 50-minute sessions, we provide a safe space for you to share and process traumatic memories, outline your goals, and gain clarity on how and where your trauma is impacting your daily life

Once you feel ready and comfortable, we can revisit your traumas safely and in small steps, through therpies like:

TF-CBT is a version of CBT designed specifically for people who have experienced trauma. This therapy helps you understand the impact of trauma, learn coping tools, and slowly begin to talk about your experiences in a safe way. It also includes work around building emotional safety, trust, and resilience.

EMDR helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they feel less distressing over time. In this therapy, you recall a traumatic event while using a form of bilateral stimulation which supports the brain’s natural healing process. EMDR does not require you to talk in detail about the trauma and is often used when clients have strong emotional or physical reactions to specific memories.

DBT combines cognitive-behavioural strategies with mindfulness and acceptance. For trauma survivors, it’s particularly useful in managing intense emotions, self-destructive behaviours, or relationship challenges. DBT focuses on teaching four core skill areas: emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness.
